Ruthin.jpg

The historical town of Ruthin is situated in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd in North Wales. The Castle, situated on the outskirts of the town has parts dating back to the 13th Century. It is now a hotel and restaurant where mediaeval banquet evenings are held.

St. Peter’s square is a picturesque setting of fascinating buildings, from the mediaeval courthouse, to the mid 16th century Myddleton Arms and not forgetting St. Peter’s Church with its magnificent oak panelled roof.

Ruthin Gaol situated on Clwyd Street has recently been renovated. It opened to the public in 2002, and is now a major visitor attraction. Also within the courtyard is the County Record Office, a must for anyone with Welsh roots wishing to trace their family tree.

The renowned Ruthin Craft Centre is a centre of excellence for traditional and contemporary arts. The Tourist Information Centre is located there, alongside the Bay Tree Café.

In addition to its historical past, Ruthin has all the needs of present day visitors. It has a variety of specialist shops and a good selection of places to eat and drink.
